What Is Physie? Physical Culture (Physie) is a sport for girls and women from 3 years and up which aims to build confidence, good posture, strength, fitness and flexibility through exercise. The choreography (updated annually) is designed to teach the relationship of movement to music, rhythm, co-ordination, balance and musical interpretation. There are a range of exercises which include standing floor routines, aerobic warm-ups, basic ballet and modern dance, professionally choreographed to modern music and made age appropriate. The choreography is designed to develop strength, posture, fitness, flexibility, balance, co-ordination and discipline. If you are competitive, you can enter both individual and team competitions, or you can just come along to weekly classes and join in the fun, fitness and friendship!!!!
All girls have the opportunity to compete in ‘Champion Girl’. Champion Girl is your individual competition for all ages. 5-14 years as well as Ladies, compete in ‘Zone’. If you are fortunate enough to place, you will then go onto the state sports centre to compete in ‘Nationals’ . This is where the top 5 girls from each age group are chosen. For the seniors (aged 15 and up), heats are held at the State Sports Centre. From heats, to semi-finals the top 15 girls from each age group section are then selected and they have the fantastic opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House, Concert Hall. As well as Champion Girl, we also have team competitions. A ‘team’ is made up of 8 girls from each age group. It is the same choreography as Champion Girl, however the team gets judged on timing and precision. This is a great way for all the girls and ladies of all ages to build life time friendships.
Learning physie improves confidence, develops a sense of achievment and helps build self esteem in the best way possible, by encouraging girls and ladies to perform in front of an audience.BJP provide a new syllabus and music every year and run annual competitions for teams(groups of 8), and for individuals.
Competing is not compulsory, however, representing Cronulla with your friends is a lot of fun!
